Why You’re Wrong About Bowhunting

Jason DeAndressi, Staff Writer

Since the beginning of time, humans have had to hunt and gather resources in order to survive harsh environments. To this day, people still use the same traditional ways of taking down large or small game, but there is a different mindset to it than there used to be.

Obviously, nowadays a person can easily go down the street to the grocery store and buy whatever food they desire, which may lead some to believe that the act of hunting isn’t even necessary anymore. But in my opinion, it is necessary, and not just because of the idiotic idea of killing animals for bloodlust.  In fact, this is not the reason why most people hunt in the first place.

There are always two sides to each argument, and the topic of bowhunting has been under dispute since I can remember. On one side, there are those who believe that it is nothing but an act of amusement for people who prey on the innocent lives of animals, but there are also those, including myself, who believe differently. Bowhunting has various benefits for not just the hunter, but to the rest of the community as well. It manages the wildlife population of certain animals that can cause harm to the environment and human beings, and it even contributes to your personal health.

The reason I am saying this is because when you hunt for your own food, you actually know where you got it. When you go to any grocery store, they can sell you a product that has other ingredients added to it because they think it may somehow enhance it. When you hunt for your own food, the meat is actually healthier for you to consume, and it even tastes better.

One of the main reasons why I (and many other people) bowhunt is to take a break from the stressful demands of modern life. Bowhunting gives you an escape from the fast-paced moments of your life, and immediately puts you into a stress-free environment. There are people that call hunting murder, and believe that people only hunt because they love the thrill of taking the innocent lives of animals. In all honesty, I have seen such things before. I’ve seen people do some really dumb and mindless things while hunting, but when they look back on what they did, they usually fully regret it.

Now, I’m not trying to badmouth people who think that hunting is a terrible thing to do; that’s their opinion. But I grew up with this lifestyle, and I’ve seen the pros and cons of doing this. Bowhunting teaches you about patience, persistence, and above all it connects you to the outdoors.
