El Charrito Taco Truck Review

El Charrito Taco Truck Review

Naren Krishnan, Staff Writer

El Charrito is a Mexican restaurant in Riverside, CT with an accompanying food truck based in Stamford, CT that sells hot food on the go. The restaurant’s website states that they have been voted as “Best tacos in Connecticut,” and the truck has also been featured on the show Best Food Ever, narrated by John Goodman. Naturally, I stopped by to see what all the fuss was about.

The truck has a wide variety of tacos, as well as other dishes, such as enchiladas, quesadillas, tostadas, and tortas. The taco fillings range from pork with skin (suertido) to steak, and their vegetable fillings include peppers and chopped greens. They also offer a variety of condiments, sides, and drinks to go with your meal. I was able to taste their suertido taco, camarones (shrimp) taco, and suadero (beef brisket) taco. The truck service was excellent, and our order was ready in just over ten minutes.

When going into the meal, I had expected it to be a bit spicier and was relatively disappointed at the mildness. However, the meal still retained flavor. The meat inside was excellently cooked, and the fillings offered their own complexity. The taco had the freshness of the mixed vegetables, the flavor profile of the herbs, and just a hint of lemon.

I would be interested to go back and try their other items and taco options at some point in the future and would encourage others to go out and try what they have to offer. I would rate the overall experience as four out of five stars and well worth the money and time to go check out.
