Weighing the expenses of going to the movies

Is it really worth going to the movies anymore?  It is $11 for standard movie tickets, and then another $6 for snacks or a drink, and I didn’t even mention paying for parking. Also, what about all those people talking during the movie?  In the end, is it really worth going to the movie theater at all? Why go to the movies when you can save money by just waiting a few months to see any movie at home by renting or streaming? But does everyone want to wait that long for a movie they really want to see?  So many questions and here’s the answer: sometimes, going to the movie theater is worth it.

If there is a certain movie that appeals to you, and it is urgent that you see it, then I say go and get the full movie experience. The movie theater is the best way to watch a movie. The big screen and surround sound really make a film special. Not to mention that going to the movies is an experience in itself.  There’s a level of satisfaction you get when a really good movie is over and the credits come on and you’re just sitting there thinking, “That was awesome.” It’s not the same on a computer or a TV at home.

Of course, Stamford High School students have their own personal opinions. Senior Lisa Kovalevska said, “I love movie theaters, but not every week. It’s a little expensive. I love the big screen, smell of popcorn and being with friends.” Senior Alex Flores disagreed, saying, “I’d rather stay home because this generation is lazy, and I’m one of them and I can make my own popcorn. Junior Brian Roman said, “Movie theaters are the best; you just don’t get the same excitement from your friends and people around you when you’re at home.”

I personally love going to the movies, but only movies I think I will really like – like dramas, and action or adventure. For comedies, I would rather wait for them to come out on DVD or Netflix because I don’t need to spend the money for the same experience I can get at home. Movies like Gravity and Skyfall I like going to the theater for.  It is the best way to experience a good movie, and it can take away from the movie if it’s not watched the proper way on a big screen with surround sound.
