Big Hero 6 Review

Ever thought that an oversized airbag was responsible for saving the world? I certainly did while watching Don Hall’s and Chris Williams’ Big Hero 6. The main character Hiro, a 13 year-old robotics genius, loses his brother in a horrible accident and is now being hunted down by a crazy guy in a mask with his own robots. The only thing Hiro has left is his brother’s legacy, Baymax, made to help the saddened and heal the sick.  After some upgrades and the help of many friends Fred, Go Go, Wasabi, and Honey Lemon, they just might be able to do it.

The characters themselves in the movie were very enjoyable to watch, and the voice actors were a very good representation of the characters. Hiro, the main character voiced by Ryan Potter, was very relatable during the film, and for an animated character the audience starts to feel what Hiro feels; the voice made the film more emotional. Baymax, voiced by Scott Adsit, was the star of the film because of how he added a very comedic side. Tadashi Hiro’s older brother, who was voiced by Daniel Henney, set the main character to be more mature, and as the center of all maturity in the film, the voice actor (although he was very funny) gave the movie a serious aspect.

Fred, one of Hiro’s friends, is voiced by T.J Miller, who does an amazing job of making Fred into a bigger goofball than he already is. Go Go, voiced by Jamie Chung, is the bad girl of the film, and adds the most action to the film of all the characters. Wasabi, voiced by Damon Wayans Jr., is the neat freak of the group, and adds to the constant comedy of the film; Wayans voices this character with amazing precision, and is the best out of the rest of the voice actors. Last but not least is Honey Lemon, voiced by Genesis Rodriguez, who is the weirdest one in the group. Rodriguez plays the part very well, but the animated character could have had a better voice actor for the role in my opinion.

The visual aspects of the film were amazing for most of movie, but in a couple of scenes they were not as impressive as some of the other parts that were amazing to see and would glue your eyes to the screen. The visual developers may have gotten lazy at times, but for the most part the movie was very beautiful to watch.

Many lovable songs are snuck in to add suspense and represent situations. One of these songs is “Immortals,” performed by Fall Out Boy, which was the main song of the film. Another worthy mention is “Edge of the Earth” by 30 seconds to Mars, and others such as Eye of the Tiger, Boca Dulce Boca and many more.

In my honest opinion, I recommend going to watch this film if you are looking for a funny, action packed animated film. I would not recommend this film to those who want to get strung along by a movie that will have a sequel or trilogy. I would rate this film 8 out of 10, because of how the film lacked some aspects and excelled in others.  At least when your in trouble you know to call Big Hero 6, but not right now – because they just went out to save a cat from a tree.
