Disney Investigates Deadmau5s logo

Spencer Stovell Brown, Staff Writer

Disney is looking into a trademark registration filed by Deadmau5. EDM artist Deadmau5 has been known for years as one of the top DJ’s in music, but he is now being investigated for allegedly stealing Disney character Mickey Mouse’s brand. When I would see pictures of deadmau5, I’d always question how exactly alike Mickey Mouse and deadmau5 looked; it was as if they could almost be twins.  Apparently, Disney has noticed the similarity as well.

Deadmau5 is the stage name of EDM DJ Joel Zimmerman. Now It has been reported that on March 28th 2014 Disney went to the US trademark office to investigate Deadmau5 trademark registration. Disney considers the logo to share the same similarities with Disney’s own Mickey Mouse. Ronica Holdings Limited filed the trademark application, in which is owned by Joel Zimmerman. However, Disney will be given 90 days to research and place a notice of opposition if they see Deadmau5’s trademark as misleading, and could possibly take deadmau5 to court.
