James A. Connelly to be Named Interim Superintendent of SPS

Andrew Young, Editor-in-Chief

On December 8, the Stamford Board of Education announced that James A. Connelly will act as the Stamford Public Schools’ Interim Superintendent.

Connelly retired in 2000 as Superintendent of Bridgeport Public Schools, but has since served as interim superintendent in many districts across Connecticut. BOE President Jackie Heftman is confident that Connelly is the right man for the job until a permanent replacement for current Superintendent Winifred Hamilton is found. According to a press release by SPS from December 4, Heftman said, “The Board believes his broad experiences as superintendent, interim superintendent, and teacher give him the right skill set to lead Stamford Public Schools while we search for a new superintendent.”

Connelly’s contract will begin on January 1, 2016.
