“Scream Queens” Returns for Season 2

Scream Queens Returns for Season 2

Jessica Torrellas, Staff Writer

They’re back! Scream Queens returned for a second season on FOX Tuesday, September 20th. Ryan Murphy, who is also the writer and producer of American Horror Story, decided to come up with a whole new story line for season two, but kept the same characters we came to love in the first season. The first season was focused on a college sorority called Kappa Kappa Tau and all the murders that happened on the campus. The killer in season one was referred to as the, “red devil,” due to the costume they wore.

Season two has changed the setting to a hospital, but adhered to its murder mystery plot with a comedic twist, which makes it so different from any other show. Not many shows have a scary plot with a hint of comedic relief to amuse its watchers.

Scream Queens is known for its wide variety of cast members and that is definitely shown this season. Returning characters include Chanel Oberlin (Emma Roberts), Chanel No. 3 (Billie Lourd), Chanel No. 5 (Abigail Breslin), Dean Cathy Munsch (Jamie Lee Curtis), Zayday Williams (Keke Palmer), and Hester Ulrich (Lea Michele). New actors who joined the cast include John Stamos as Dr. Brock Holt, Taylor Lautner as Dr. Cassidy Cascade and Kirstie Alley playing Ingrid Hoffel.

In the first episode, “Scream Again,” it takes place years after the sorority murders and Dean Munsch (Curtis) has opened up an abandoned hospital. It is known as,“the hospital where the incurable are cured.” In this particular episode the cast was dealing with a woman covered in hair from her head to her toes. This aspect of the show was clearly added for comedic relief and shows the beginning of the creepy patients we will meet this season at the hospital. Dean Munsch, who now refers to herself as “Dr. Munsch,” recruited Dr. Brock Holt (Stamos), Dr. Cassidy Cascade (Lautner) and Zayday Williams (Palmer), who decided to become a medical student. Later on in the episode the Chanels came to the hospital in order to regain their social status and become new medical students. Roberts, the leading lady of the Chanels, did a great job with her returning role. She successfully got back into character as the stereotypical girly-girl who gets whatever she wants. John Stamos and Taylor Lautner were invited by Cathy Munsch (Curtis) to be doctors in order to build up their reputation in the medical world. Both actors did an excellent job in their first episode adding mystery and comedy to their lovable characters.

It is later revealed in the episode that there is a new killer on the loose at the hospital. Although there hasn’t been a name created for the new killer this season, they are seen wearing a big green monster costume. It seems like this season will focus on the mystery of the unknown identity of this killer and how to stop the new murders at the new hospital.

If you love horror, comedy and a great celebrity cast, you should definitely give the show a chance. You will not regret it! Catch Scream Queens on FOX every Tuesday night at 9 P.M.
