A planned walkout for SHS has been canceled after being originally rescheduled for Thursday afternoon following an email sent out by Principal Matt Forker.
After the Westhill High School walkout that took place on mid-day Tuesday, SHS students had planned to follow up with theirs. However, it has been canceled until further notice via an email Forker sent, saying, “the superintendent has yet to make a decision on any administrative moves within Stamford Public Schools, including SHS.” Forker added, “the need to protest does not exist at this moment.”
The main focuses have been shifted towards Westhill High School principal Michael Rinaldi and Rogers International School principal Cathleen Cummings, who are at risk of being moved to another position. In support, a group of Rogers and Westhill parents showed up to the Stamford Government Center on Tuesday evening with posters and school colors, to rally for their beloved principals. Their initial intent was to protest at the board of education meeting, but the in person meeting was canceled due to safety concerns.
The board issued a statement Wednesday evening saying, “We understand that people were disappointed by the cancellation of the March regular meeting, including Time for the Public to be Heard [sic]. The board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, March 31st at 7 pm during which a portion of the meeting will be dedicated to public comment.”
Forker told The Round Table, “nothing has been done that would warrant any student displeasure,” and added that, “[if] that day comes, we will then address it if the students want to make their voices be heard, we will support them.”
