On March, 10, 2014 a recently hired custodian was arrested for vandalizing a historic phallus drawn on the wall of the 1st floor by painting over it first with a coat of primer, and then with white paint. The double vandalism was occurred on a drawing said to have been crafted in black permanent marker in 1969, when the first students were on their way to the music festival Woodstock.

The historic image on the wall apparently represented freedom of expression, and was a first stand against teachers going too far for control of students. No one knows why a wiener was chosen, exactly, but the rumor is that the artist didn’t want to be conventional by drawing a flower or a peace sign.

Stamford High school has set a zero tolerance policy for vandalism in and around the school. The discovery of this heinous crime left at least one graduate and teacher of Stamford High in tears. The historic graffiti is more than just a drawing for students in Stamford High..

Ever since the graffiti was vandalized, students have lashed out by creating many copies all over the school. The retaliations are most prominent in the old first floor elevator, also cover much of floors 1, 2, and 6.  Dr. Valentine and the administration are in a bit of a rut, deciding whether the outbursts should be a punishable offense or to let the students get their anger out. But for now, it appears that the many tributes are going to remain on the walls until a decision is made.

Custodian Michael Hawk said, “I thought the image on the wall was just a wise guy’s prank; I didn’t know it was a historic symbol for the school.” Hawk has since been fired for his offense, and is now sitting in a jail cell with all the other mastermind criminals. Officer Richard Long, also a Stamford High graduate, said “I’m happy I’m the one who put this vicious villain behind bars.”
