Unified Sports Coming to a Close

Matt Valenti, Staff Writer

The season of 2017 Unified Sports is sadly coming to a close shortly. Tonight, April 3 will be the last tournament that the Black Knights will travel to, to attempt to finish the season with an undefeated record. With a season not originally promised to be filled with wins, but instead memories and quality time spent with the good kids in this program, the team ended up being more than happy with the outcome.

With first-year coaches Michael Summa and Melissa Giordano taking over the team this season, and none of the coaches from last year returning, it was a learning experience for all of the team. With both coaches having an athletic background (Giordano coaching the softball team and Summa coaching soccer and baseball), it was not hard for them to pick up on the skills and drills that are needed to know to run the team. With a little help from the returning helpers and players, the coaches felt right at home with the team within the first practice. So far this season Stamford High has defeated Westhill twice, McMahon, and went undefeated in their last tournament at St. Luke’s High School. The team will be traveling to Fairfield Ludlowe on April 3 to go face to face with a group of schools from all over the FCIAC in hopes to finish their season strong in their last tournament.
