On Saturday afternoon, the Stamford High boys basketball team took on their crosstown rival Westhill for the second time this season.

Last time the two squared off, the Black Knights slid past the Vikings, making them City champions.

On Saturday, Westhill saw the opportunity for revenge and seized it. The lead went back and forth early as the Vikings and Black Knights both played well. A surge came in the third quarter when Westhill began to pull away behind the impressive play of Senior Parish Rowell who scored 17 points, and Tyler Lasicki, who chipped in with 11.

Jay Devito was the sole reliable player for Stamford on Saturday, as he had a game high 23 points while battling double teams and traps from the Vikings defense.

After their victory against the Black Knights, Westhill went on to defeat the number 2 seed Trumbull High School on Tuesday night and will have a chance to defend their FCIAC title on Thursday night against Danbury High School.

The Stamford High boys will face off against the Greenwich Cardinals in the first round of the Connecticut state tournament.
