As Winter break approaches, many are heading out to ski slopes to enjoy outdoor fun. Junior Sam Berkot said, “Totes stoked to hit the slopes brah. Gone be some solid pow[der].” We’ve decided to help you maximize time on the mountain and minimum time in ski lift lines. Starting with Butternut, we are working out way up to the number one ski resort – Okemo.

5. Butternut- Located in Great Barrington, MA, it’s really close to NYC, and great for a day trip. Family friendly, this mountain offers a wide range of trails from “Paddy’s Wagon” to “Lucifer’s Leap.” Rentals are available and lines move fast. For people purchasing four-hour passes, we recommend going from 9-1 p.m., because trails are less icy and ski lift lines move faster. Its also has tubing after the sun goes down. CONS: Filled with too many little kids who ski in packs down the mountain.

4. Ski Sundown- Located in Connecticut, this mountain is absolutely kid friendly and a great place to start to learn skiing/snowboarding.  It’s a small place that is perfect for day trips and offers single-person ski lifts. The lesson staff is friendly and lift tickets tend to be on the cheaper side. CONS: Lodges are small and crowded.

3. Mt. Snow- located in Vermont, is a common attraction for many CT residents. It’s got a Waffle Cabin and trails ranging from bunny slopes to double-black diamonds. Many condo rentals are available to accommodate visitors for weeklong skiing.  Junior Dorothy Toth says, “I’ve been going there for 12 years, and it never disappoints. I give it 4 stars.” CONS: Pricey ski lift tickets.

2. Killington – is BIG, and considered the “Beast of the East.” Everything from the terrain park to the extensive snowmaking is large-scale; enough said.

1. Okemo- offers a wide range of terrain, as well as a family friendly atmosphere in the town of Ludlow Vermont. The mountain is not overwhelmingly large and is the perfect place to go when considering a weekend for skiing. There are terrain parks like “Hotdog Hill” and half pipes which make the mountain appealing to every type of ski/snowboarder. With the option of two-day ski passes which save you money, and the unlimited options of restaurants available directly off the mountain, there isn’t much not to love about this place. It also has the original “Waffle Cabin” that sells chocolate dipped waffles.
