The Brunch Box Food Truck Review

Over the last few years there has been a notable rise in the food truck scene in Stamford. From fancy grilled sandwiches to authentic Hawaiian-Asian fusion, a wide variety of fare is now available.    Positioned in popular night life areas, such as Bedford Street or Alive at Five, the trucks have established themselves well in the Stamford cultural setting. This time we tried out The Bunch Box, a food truck specializing in brunch.

A combination of breakfast and lunch, brunch is a common event in America. Brunch encompasses a vast variety of food possibilities, and The Brunch Box capitalizes on this. The only food truck dedicated solely to brunch, The Brunch Box combines lunch and breakfast perfectly on its simple yet extravagant menu. From classic meals like a grilled cheese to a high class eggs Benedict sandwich, there is something for everyone. But no fare is average; ingredients are all natural, always fresh, and of the highest quality. Their menu is always changing though, as they strive to use only the freshest ingredients, which are not always readily available.

When we went, we all got something different. First was the classic bacon, egg and cheese. Served on the signature fresh Portuguese muffin, this was no ordinary sandwich. On the first bite, you get the taste and texture of the fluffy Portuguese muffin, and then the hot, crispy and delicious bacon covered in melted cheddar cheese. Coupled with the perfect over easy egg, this is a truly delectable option. Second, the Capraese sandwich. If you are looking for a lighter option this is definitely for you. Again on the signature Portuguese muffin, this sandwich leaves you with a light and refreshing taste in your mouth while still being filling. With its cool and chewy hand pulled mozzarella, juicy vine tomatoes, sensationally fresh chopped basil and extra virgin olive oil, this seemingly simplistic sandwich packs and intense, complex flavor. Third, the avocado and bacon grilled cheese. This combination of rich flavors overwhelms your taste buds with savory goodness. The gooey cheese, fresh avocado and crispy bacon were a perfect mix.

The mastermind behind this fantastic food truck is James Marcelo. Working with his partner Matt, Marcelo started up The Brunch Box just under a year ago. Initially working in the hospitality business, Marcelo said that he had always wanted to start a food truck. Now his food truck venture has taken off and was recently named Best Food Truck in Connecticut Magazine and referred to highly in Serendipity Magazine. Striving to please the customer with fresh and local ingredients and innovative menu options, this Westchester County native is soon hoping to take the wheels off and set up a “brick and mortar” shop. Open all through the winter you can find The Brunch Box in Stamford’s Harbor Point on the weekends and Broad Street most days during the week. It is a food truck and locations change but you can always find The Brunch Box on Facebook, on Twitter @thebrunchboxct or on Instagram @thebrunchboxct.
