Ahh, movies… a set of moving pictures displayed on a screen. Millions upon millions of fans glue their eyes to movies and contently watch. Blockbusters are one of the most popular types of movies. They can range from comedy to sci-fi to fantasy to romantic comedy. You name the genre, there is a blockbuster in it! But, did you ever think that those movies you think are so perfect may have some hidden flaws? Some mistakes can slip by the naked eye, even to the producer making the film! However, everyone makes mistakes, so it’s no big deal because in the end, viewers tend to love the film. Now, here are some of those flaws displayed in five favorite movies.

1. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

After J.K. Rowling wrote the famous fantasy series, Harry Potter, it was adapted into eight movies. In the particular movie known as Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Draco Malfoy and Harry Potter are one another’s worst enemy. In a specific scene in which Malfoy and Potter “cross wands,” Potter blasts Malfoy off of his feet in front of the whole dueling class. What fans don’t notice is that a cameraman is standing within the audience of students, blending in and unnoticeable to the viewer.

2. Jurassic Park

Steven Spielberg’s film, Jurassic Park, tells the story of an adventure to an island that raises dinosaurs and allows them to roam around the park. A group of scientists, along with the two grandchildren of John Hammond, the owner of the dinosaur infested park and founder of the company InGen, visit the island to explore and study some magnificent species of dinosaurs. In one of the movie’s scenes, two ferocious velociraptors chase Hammond’s grandchildren into a kitchen located in the Jurassic museum/ building. The velociraptors were made by Stan Winston and his team. They were created using computer generated imagery and with lifesize animatronic technology. In this scene, the two velociraptors make their way through the kitchen door. What viewers do not notice is that a hand appears at the left-hand side of the second velociraptor (behind the first one). A crew member had to place his hand on the back of the giant electronic sculpture because the dinosaur was unable to maintain balance on its own.

3. Gladiator

Ridley Scott’s popular film, The Gladiator, starring Russel Crowe, tells an epic Roman story. The story tells the audience how Commodus takes control and strips Maximus (Crowe) and Maximus’s father, Emperor Marcus Aurelius, of their rankings. Maximus is then put down and required to fight to the death in the gladiator arenas. There are many small mistakes displayed in this movie. For example, an air canister is exposed when Maximus’s cart is flipped over during one of his matches. Additionally, the camera crew is visible in a wider shot of the scene in which Maximus asks the audience, “Are you not entertained?!”

4. Jaws

Steven Spielberg’s film, Jaws, tells the story of a vicious, man-eating shark that appears in the waters of Amity Island and terrorizes boaters and swimmers. This frightening shark wreaks havoc on the citizens of Amity Island. In one scene, Jaws swims near the shores of a beach and strikes 12-year-old Alex Kitner, who is on a yellow raft. Alex was told to stay out of the water by his mother because he would become pruned. Alex begged his mom to allow him to play in the water for five more minutes. After being pestered with the begging, his mom finally gives up and allows him to go back into the water. After swimming out to sea on his inflatable raft, Jaws swims up to the boy’s feet and drags him under the water. Alex is no longer able to be seen and does not return from the ocean, scaring his mother with the idea that she will not be able to see her son again. Shortly after Alex’s death, everybody who owns a boat takes off and goes on a massive search to capture and kill the Great White. What viewers don’t notice is that the entire camera crew can be seen in one of the boats taking off. It is rumored that Spielberg was so captivated by the excitement of the hunt that he sent out his entire camera crew to participate.

5. Frozen

Disney Pixar Animation’s popular movie, Frozen, tells the story of Anna and Kristoff’s journey to find the magical ice queen, Elsa, after their kingdom encounters an everlasting snow storm. Before the journey starts, Elsa escapes the kingdom of Arendelle after exposing her powers that were meant to be hidden. Along the way, Elsa begins to accept and embrace her powers by performing the award winning song, “Let it Go”.During her performance, Elsa changes her attire from an elegant gown to a beautiful icy dress, and lets her hair flow down into a beautiful french braid. Even though this movie is created one single frame at a time, it doesn’t mean that mistakes can’t slip through. What viewers do not see in Elsa’s performance is that when she takes down her hair and brushes it over her left shoulder, her hair goes through her left arm instead of flowing over her shoulder. Of course, despite this very minor editing mistake, the movie is still fantastic and magical!
