There are lots of stigmas that people create regarding the K-pop community and industry. “It’s just for teenagers, they don’t make their own music, the men look to feminine, the fans are crazy”. And unfortunately it doesn’t stop there. So many people hate on it without trying to listen to it. K-pop isn’t just a genre, it’s like an experience. It’s the powerful choreography, different concepts, and emotional storytelling through their music. Music blends cultures, languages and sounds in a way that’s completely unique. Whether it’s emotional ballads, intense rapping, deep lyrics, or their high energy performances. If you want to understand all the hype about K-pop, here are some bands you should check out.
One band I’m really into these days is a band called Stray Kids. Most people think it’s a weird name but there’s a meaning behind it. The name “Stray Kids,” chosen by the members themselves, signifies their desire to break free from expectations and find their own path, offering a message of hope and resilience to others who feel lost or struggling. The band makes their own lyrics, their own tracks, and produces it all. I feel like stray kids are the type of group that anyone can listen to and listen to them with any mood you’re in. One of the most defining aspects of Stray Kids is their refusal to be boxed into a single genre. Hip-hop, EDM, experimental, Rock, R&B influenced, and playful pop. Their performances are also really strong. The choreography isn’t just there to look cool, it amplifies the story they’re telling through their songs. Every movement, every expression, every formation is intentional. At western award shows their live stages leave such a lasting impact on audiences, even those who aren’t familiar with K-pop.

Another band that would be easy to get into is Twice. Twice is a 9 member girl group. Their sound was more of a bubblegum pop and dance pop in the beginning but Twice has really evolved over the years. They’ve matured in both sound and style, diving into synth-pop, retro, R&B. Their latest release “Strategy” has a Megan the stallion feature on it. They harmonize not only musically but emotionally too, you can tell how close they are, and that genuine chemistry shines through in everything they do. Their performances are full of life and charisma. TWICE doesn’t just perform, they radiate joy on stage. Even if you don’t know the lyrics, you find yourself smiling or dancing along because their energy is just that infectious. And their music videos are pure visual candy. Vibrant colors, imaginative sets, fun storylines, it’s like a mini movie every time.

The final group you should try is Tomorrow by Together. They’re a 5 member boy group. They’re known for their cinematic storytelling, emotional depth, and genre blending sound. TXT’s performances are polished and emotional, and they’re known for their tight choreography and expressive stage presence. Their music mixes pop, rock, R&B, and even alt or emo-inspired vibes. Some songs I recommend are “Runaway”, “Blue hour”, and “Good Boy Gone Bad”.
