Stamford High School kicked off a weekend full of sports with a football team win versus Brien McMahon’s Senators. Friday night’s match up under the lights proved to be a nail-biter; truly an intense game that ended in an extraordinary fashion. After a touchdown with approximately 40 seconds left in the game, the Senators were stopped short of the goal line on a two-point attempt. This crucial stop in the game led to the Black Knights’ 20-18 victory, and improved their record to 3-1 on the season. The team will have a two week window in which they will prepare for their match up against undefeated Staples High School.
The Lady Knights took on their cross-town rival, Westhill High School, in a field hockey match up that stayed close through the distance. Our Lady Knights eventually fell to the Vikings 4-2, with goals scored by Maddie Santora and Devon Yaghmaie. Their record fell to 2-7 on the year. You can catch the field hockey team playing tonight at 7 p.m. at New Canaan High School; show your spirit and come support the Lady Knights.
In addition to both of those match ups, the volleyball team went head on against Darien High School Friday afternoon. In the face off, Volleyball won 25-14, 16-25, 27-25, 23-25, 15-9. The team was able to pull through with a victory (3-2) over Blue Wave thanks to key players Andrea O’Connor, Liisa Balazs, Gloria Matiolli, Jayla Wilson and Kyra Yacavone. They improved thjeir record to 7-2 overall. They will have a very important match with cross-town rival Trinity Catholic High School Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
Monday, Stamford High boys soccer matched up against Darien, tying the game with a goal from Federico Marin, making the final score 1-1. On Friday, the Knights played against the number one seed, Danbury High School. Though they had many opportunities to score, the team ended the game in a tie, Stamford 1 – Danbury 1, with a goal from Orlando Coronado.
The Stamford High Girls soccer team took on Darien last Tuesday in which they lost 1-0. Friday they blew out Trinity High School as they put up a season high 7 goals to none. This Tuesday they played Danbury High school and lost by a score of 4-1.
