Dreams Can Come True with The Cinderella Project
March 16, 2015
The Cinderella Project is back for its second year at Stamford High. On Wednesday, March 25, all Black Knights are invited to shop for new and gently used dresses and tuxedos from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room 101.
Inspired by a girl who could not attend the prom because she could not afford to buy a dress, Holly Hyman created The Cinderella Project. “It made me upset to overhear this girl who couldn’t go to the prom,” Hyman said, “So I put two and two together and The Cinderella Project was born.” Hyman reached out to friends and family via Facebook, and the dresses started pouring in. “I would take anything I could get. Most people buy a dress for a fortune and never wear it again,” Hyman said.
With The Cinderella Project, she collects these dresses, stores them in her basement, and gives them to high school students in exchange for a suggested $20 donation that goes toward reducing the cost of prom expenses.
Last year, the Cinderella Project was wildly successful, with over 50 girls going home with dresses. This year, Hyman brought the project to AITE, and is trying to spread the project to Brien McMahon in Norwalk.
For the second annual Cinderella Project, Hyman will not only be bringing prom wear, but also graduation dresses, sweet 16 attire, shoes and casual dresses for Black Knights of all shapes and sizes. The dresses span from all over, coming as far as Rhode Island to as close as Stamford’s own A Step Ahead boutique. Additionally, she has a few tuxedos and brand new shirts to wear under for men.
“I have some beautiful dresses and I hope everyone comes to try some on,” said Hyman. Don’t miss your chance to find the perfect dress! Be sure to visit room 101 on March 25 and you will surely find something magical.
