Super Bowl LI Break Down
January 30, 2017
Super Bowl 51 is quickly approaching, and both the New England Patriots and the Atlanta Falcons are ready for their matchup. Both teams are equipped with high powered offenses, and talented defenses. They have each been red hot scoring machines heading into the championship. Falcons deep threat and elite receiver Julio Jones is coming off a monstrous performance against the Green Bay Packers, racking up 180 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the other hand, Patriots receivers Chris Hogan and Julian Edelman each had over 100 yards against their AFC championship opponent, the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Falcons have come off two big wins, starting with a 36-20 victory over the Seahawks and most recently trampling the Packers in
a 44-21 blowout. The Patriots have been on a roll as well beating the Steelers by a 19 point margin in a 36-17 beatdown, and knocking out the Texans by a score of 34-16. Up until the beginning of this postseason, the Falcons have failed to make any noise in the playoffs with Matt Ryan leading the way. But all has changed as the Falcons have proved that they are a legit offensive powerhouse as the Falcons have the number one offense in the league, leading in both overall yards per game, and passing yards
per game. Although the stats may favor the Falcons however, the Patriots dynamic duo of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick has been the most dominant partnership in the last decade. Even with his four game suspension at the beginning of the year, Brady finished with a 28-2 touchdown to interception ratio and is a candidate for MVP. In the four games that Belichick had to operate on his own, he was able to manage a 3-1 record with his backup and third string quarterback under center.
The Atlanta Falcons have had a great season, as they have fought their way back to the Super Bowl for the first time since 1998. They have an unstoppable offense, with Matt Ryan proving that he can pick apart just about any opposing defensive scheme. Their defense is better than most give them credit for, as they have pass rushers that can rattle the quarterback, and a secondary that includes all-pro cornerback Desmond Trufant. On the opposite end The Patriots are beyond a super team and a super franchise, dominating the league this year with a 14-2 record. Matt Ryan has faced strong teams, but the Patriots will be his toughest encounter. In addition, the experience and the coaching of the Patriots is an unquantifiable value that just makes the team an almost impossible encounter.
Prediction: Patriots 34 Falcons 27
