Why James Rodriguez should leave Real Madrid

There has been constant transfer talk about James Rodriguez, as he is linked with a move away from the Spanish capital of Madrid. The Colombian midfielder was signed by Real Madrid after winning the golden boot at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. Rodriguez however has recently struggled to get playing time and should seek a way out of Real Madrid.

Rodriguez caught the football world’s eyes after scoring 6 goals in 5 matches, which included what would later become the best goal of 2014.

The signing turned out to be favorable for the Spanish giants. Rodriguez scored 13 goals and 13 assists  in 29 starts in the 2014/2015 La Liga season with Real Madrid. However, he later struggled  to get time under new coach Rafael Benitez and his starts went down to 17 and only scored 9 goals with 8 assists in the 2015/2016 La Liga season under Rafael Benitez and Zinedine Zidane. This season, James has only four league starts in La Liga, and has one goal and three assists.

If James Rodriguez were to stay at the club, he would probably get opportunities from Zidane. “I do think he should stay at this great club. Sometimes it takes time but it isn’t a matter of [his] attitude, I simply have to make decisions. He will play and is going to receive minutes. He is a very good player and we all know what he can bring.” Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane said.

Rodriguez hinted at a possible move away from Madrid after not playing in the final of the Club World Cup. “”Things are not going as I would want,” he said. “But I have had offers and I have these seven days to think well about everything. “I want to stay, but you must think about everything. I cannot assure you what will happen, as I want to play more.”

James Rodriguez should leave Real Madrid because of the fact that his form has suffered. Rodriguez has proved that he is a world class player and if he were to get enough appearances, any club would be lucky to have him.

Although they spent a lot of money on Pogba, Manchester United would be a good destination for James since Rooney and Fellaini have fallen out of the rotation. Rodriguez would contribute to Manchester United, and he would also be able to get plenty of playing time which is what he desires.
