Stamford High pulled out its first win of the season this past weekend against Danbury High. The win was a gutsy one.  Stamford pulled out in the final seconds on a 3-yard run by senior running back Tyrel Diaz. The touchdown came after a three-minute drive in which senior receiver Nick Romanello pulled down a huge 33-yard reception to bring the Knights all the way down to the 3-yard line.

The Knights were also ignited by a huge pass from senior quarterback Troy Duncan that Diaz took for 80 yards all the way to the end zone for their first score. Stamford received great performances from Romanello, who had 73 yards receiving, Diaz and senior Charles Razor who contributed on defense with an interception on a throw to the endzone. Senior Nico Laveris said this was “a great win to start off the season and we’re really excited for this season.”

Overall, it was a great win from a team who fought hard to come back and win on the final drive. The Black Knights will be taking on Darien next Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Darien.
