The Stamford High boys basketball team will yet again get their shot in the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference this year, following an impressive win over New Canaan High School last night, February 25 in the Kuzco Gym.

The Knights came out on top with a 64 – 23 win over the New Canaan Rams. However this wasn’t just your ordinary regular season game, it was also the boys’ senior night.

Prior to tip off, with the help of Mr. Brandon Augistien, the team’s 7 seniors we’re honored for their hard work and dedication to the program. “It’s not easy to play for me” says head coach, Danny Melzer. “I respect those seniors that stuck through these 4 years and continued to stay dedicated” he adds.

As the Knights prepare for their first round game in the FCIAC on Saturday against Trumbull High School at Fairfield Ludlowe High School at 5:00pm by re-watching film from their previous game versus Trumbull, working harder in practice than ever before and staying as focused as possible, Melzer can’t help but feel sad to see these seniors go. “They have been a special group, I’ve been with 6 of them since their freshman year, saying goodbye is not something I want to think about right now.” (Senior Malik Claybourne started playing his junior year.)

As for what the seniors are doing after their time at Stamford High is over, most still have no clue what they’re doing.

Captian, Kwe Askew has gotten two offers from Division 1 schools to play basketball, but he might also want to attend a prep school to furter his skills and experince. Two sport athlete Billy DeVito has already committed to play baseball for Division 1, Hartford University. Gianni Carwin, or more commonly known as “G”, might attend a Divsion 3 college to continue to play basketball. John Cascio is currently receiving his acceptances, and has yet to decide where he’s going. Melzer says he’s not sure what Whens Desther, Malik Claybourne and Rich Beniot are planning on doing, but he’s confident that with the Black Knight spirit, they’ll be great where ever they end up.

Black Knight Nation wants to thank these seniors for an exciting 4 years of basketball, and we can’t wait to support you throughout the FCIAC tournament

For fans wishing to attend the Saturday game, there will be a fan bus sign up sheet in the main office tomorrow.
