Fantasty Football is More Than Just A Dream
January 28, 2015
As the fantasy football season comes to a close we can now look back at the wonderful year we had. There were tons of players we loved to have on our roster and many we tried every week to get rid of. Now whether you reigned victorious in your league or were left in the dust you can read this 2014 fantasy recap.
First I would like to address the stars of the season, a few players from each position that shined as expected. From the quarterback position the players that overachieved were Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts, Aaron Rodgers of the Green Bay Packers, Russell Wilson of the Seattle Seahawks and Peyton Manning of the Denver Broncos. All four of these quarterbacks are always projected to be among the league leaders and they definitely did not disappoint this season. No surprise ¾ of these QBs were still in contention for the super bowl.
At running back the two that shined were Le’Veon Bell of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Demarco Murray of the Dallas Cowboys. Murray rushed for 100+ yards in all but 5 games this season he was about as consistent as they come. Bell reached elite status with his 1341 rushing yards and 8 touchdowns this fantasy season and is likely a very early first round pick.
The wide receivers were the most reliable point producers this season. The ones that produced as expected were Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Jordy Nelson of the Green Bay Packers, Dez Bryant of the Dallas Cowboys and Demaryius Thomas of the Denver Broncos. These four managed to be the leading point scorers in both standard fantasy scoring leagues and points per reception scoring leagues. All four of these receivers gave you a huge advantage every Sunday and never disappointed.
Tight end is a position that can give you an edge on any opponent if you have a huge difference maker on your team. This year the guy you needed to have was Rob Grownkowski of the New England Patriots. Grownkowski also known as ‘’Gronk’’ plays at a superhuman level and is nearly impossible to effectively defend. All of these players were privileges to have on a roster and exciting to watch play every weekend.
With all the great performers there had to be some great disappointments. These are the players drafted early with high aspirations that just didn’t perform to their projections. Robert Griffin the third of the Washington Redskins had another under par year when he was expected to bounce back from his injury. Adrian Peterson from the Minnesota Vikings and Ray Rice from the Baltimore Ravens both had their seasons cut short due to legal issues. Their suspensions led to wholes in many fantasy rosters, leaving them without first or second round picks. In a great receiver year there weren’t too many disappointments although Wes Welker did show signs of aging and might lead us to believe that his best days are behind him.
A fantasy season couldn’t be complete without the waiver wire pick-ups or late round picks that absolutely over achieve. There were plenty of breakout players this season that shook the fantasy world. Odell Beckham Jr., rookie receiver for the New York Giants stepped in week five and completely took over the game with his stellar catches and flashy touchdown dance he was a blessing for all teams. He finished with 12 touchdowns and was among league leaders at the end of the season playing four less games than most receivers. Justin Forsett of the Baltimore Ravens and Jeremy Hill of the Cincinnati Bengals were two running backs that shined when they got their chance. Emmanuel Sanders came to the Denver Broncos this season after being on the Steelers and made a beautiful transition to the team. He was among the league leaders in receptions and yards and he fit beautifully in the offense. Mike Evans was also a great rookie wide receiver on a not so great team. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers struggled this season but he was one positive to build around.
This season certainly did not disappoint and it has left all of us fantasy lovers thinking about how to win next year!
