As news of Richie Incognito’s (Guard for the Miami Dolphins) recent bullying toward Jonathan Martin has surfaced, the general public has become increasingly angered.
There is no place in the NFL for bullying, and Incognito showcased the worst kind – displaying racial hate toward Martin via text messages and voicemails.
It has now been released that even earlier in his football career, he was guilty of the same behavior. In 2002, as a freshman at Nebraska he was known for harassing a fellow offensive lineman.
Certainly not something any fan would want to hear. Mike Nunziante, a Junior here at Stamford High and a die hard fan had a very strong opinion in particular. “Actions like this made by Incognito, should never be tolerated in any level of play, especially at the professional level. These athletes are looked up to by the kids watching them, what kind of message does that send if the NFL allows this to be overlooked, solely because Incognito is a standout player?” “Something needs to be done about this”
In an interview with him in late August, Incognito looks very calm, speaks respectfully and stumbles upon his words to make him look like a “good” person. The interview can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3BNe75k4OE&safe=active.
The fact that he can come off so sly and innocent toward this situation saying things like “I have nothing but respect for my teammates” disgusts fans and everyday people alike.
Bullying has become a major problem in society today, but when you think of bullying, you think in the halls of a high school, or the ever so popular “online bullying”. Not by a grown adult toward another.
Bottom line is, the NFL can’t continue to protect their players once they have committed such a serious offense. Incognito deserves everything coming to him, and more.
