Both the mens’ and ladies’ rooms on the 6^th floor, across from the library have been closed until further notice. There has apparently been vandalism and drug use going on in the bathrooms, and they have been locked as of Wednesday, November 19. The head of SHS security, Curtis Tinnin, said, “There have been some complaints from staff and security that the kids have been hanging in there and damaging things, and furthermore, they’ve been smoking in there.” Media specialist Mary George added that, “Yes, there have been some odd smells, different from cigarettes, in the hallway.”

Some people expressed disappointment over the closings. “The school needs to do more to find the people responsible for vandalizing and damaging the bathrooms; closing the bathroom is not an option, and probably creates a potential medical issue,” said Spanish teacher Matt Gladstone. Senior Ashley Exantus agreed that it is unfair that they have closed the bathroom. “It’s those kids that are damaging and smoking in it that should be punished for their actions, not the whole entire school. Closing the bathroom is not going to make them not do it again, so what’s the point of it?” said Exantus.
