Summer reading packets galore!
June 3, 2014
It’s that time of year again! Schools all over America are closing for summer vacation, and with summer impending the teachers of Stamford roll out their summer reading packets. Upcoming freshman going into freshman honors English must read The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho. Ninth graders becoming tenth graders who plan to take honors English must read All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque over the summer. Students taking juniors honors English are expected to have read The Heretics Daughter by Kathleen Kent.
For AP English language you have the (dreaded) E.B. White journal and a set of mandatory readings. Twelfth grade honors English is expected to have read A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Once again, oncoming AP literature students must read Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison and keep a dialectical journal, similar to the journal written for the Essays Of E.B. White in AP Language. These seniors must also read ten poems by William Wordsworth and write a poem in the style of Wordsworth.
Your load of summer work may seem daunting, but if you do it early and get it out of the way, you’re stress free for the rest of the summer.

It came to my attention that your Junior honors students will be reading my book, The Heretic’s Daughter. I’m thrilled to be included with some of my favorite books and authors that were listed as required summer reading. Best regards, Kathleen Kent
