#You’reBeautifulStamford!

The Stamford messages twitter account

Twitter, a place where people can voice their opinions without leaving the safety of their computer screen. Unfortunately, that includes the voices of those who may not have the nicest opinions. This trend is mostly apparent with high school students.

But one Twitter account, “Stamford Messages,” is hoping to change this. Their goal is to make Stamford, a town that has felt the hate and heartache due to senseless bullying, into a loving and benevolent community.

Here’s how it works: followers of the page can “dm” or direct message the owner of the account “any positive messages (compliments, wishes, anything!) about anyone in Stamford CT” as described in the accounts bio. It is also noted that all submissions are made anonymous, for privacy reasons.

The account, only created last night has over 300 tweets all dedicated to kids in Stamford. People were so overwhelmed with the love being sent out that it moved them to tears. How do we know that? Well they tweeted it of course!

The messages range from inside jokes between friends, to extremely motivating words seen in one of the tweets directed to one of Stamford High seniors, Lauren Loffredo: “Lauren Loffredo is beautiful and a really strong person.”  She then replied to the tweet “Omg thank you!! Made my whole day and week,” and clearly the creator of the account has achieved his/her goal.

The only thing we can wish for is that this anonymous account will encourage people to continue these random acts of kindness, not behind a screen, but face to face. I’m sure walking down the hallways and hearing, “Wow you look beautiful today” can boost anyone’s mood and make anyone’s smile a little brighter.

What we need to remember is that everyone is dealing with their own problems and we’re all connected by one thing, this town that we call home. High school can be a scary thing, but our experience can always be made better if we’re better to one another.
