47-year-old Glenn Mishuck was formally charged with 17 accounts of second-degree sexual assault on Thursday, October 31. After seven years of teaching at Stamford High School in the 1990’s, Mishuck left the Stamford school system and went on to teach at Fairfield Ludlowe High School for 12 years, where he allegedly had intimate relations with a student.
The police uncovered the relationship between Mishuck and the high school student through chains of text messages hinting towards sexual interaction between the two.
In one chain of texts, Mishuck allegedly invited the student to his home in Bridgeport to study and “hang out,” according to court documents. That night the girl reportedly fell asleep on his couch and Mishuck allegedly proceeded to bring her into his bed; however, he said he headed back to sleep alone on the couch.
Mishuck admitted to having an affair with the under-aged high school student after official police charges were filed, and was placed on administrative leave shortly after the Fairfield school district learned of the investigation. He then resigned his teaching position on October 7; however, his text messages to the student apparently continued.
According to the police warrant, Mishuck reassured the student through texts that he “has a pretty good idea what [the police] know.” He also reminded her, “I care about you and believe in you so much.”
Mishuck was arraigned at Superior Court in Bridgeport after his arrest and held on a bond of $150,000. The judge refused to release Mishuck or lower the bond after Mishuck’s lawyer insisted that his clear criminal record and family support prove that he is willing to address the issue as progresses.
Two teachers from Stamford High School who chose to remain anonymous recalled Mishuck as a popular, involved, and enthusiastic teacher who had close relationships with his students. Both sources described Mishuck as well-liked by students, teachers, and parents alike, and as a positive contributor – especially to Stamford High baseball where he was an assistant coach.
Mishuck’s arrest was the second that week regarding former Fairfield school faculty members having sexual relations with teenagers.
