As we all know, we had changes during the summer. One of them is that former math department head Claudia Berlage became the new math department administrator. According to Principal Dr. Donna Valentine, Ms. Berlage is “absolutely terrific.” Valentine said, “I enjoy working with her a lot. She’s wonderful, intelligent and she’s great with kids!” The Round Table recently took the opportunity to sit down with Ms. Berlage for an interview.
The Round Table: How do you like being the new math administrator?
Ms. Berlage: “I love it!”
TRT: What do you like about it?
Ms. Berlage: The first thing I like about it is that I love meeting kids. I like helping them in any way I can and being able to interact with the.
TRT: Do you miss being the head math department?
Ms. Berlage: This is the right challenge at the right time. I kind of miss teaching, but not in the way that I would go back to being a math department head . But I really enjoyed teaching and being the head of the math department.
TRT: What is it like being an administrator?
Ms. Berlage: It’s a hustle! I mean, I like the hustle; I like when there’s a lot of work, when I can help people.
TRT: Which position requires you to do more work?
Ms. Berlage: Of course, as an administrator. First of all, it is a big responsibility. You have to be sure every student gets the math he or she needs.
TRT: Is there a big difference between the two positions?
Ms. Berlage: There is. I mean both jobs are fantastic but being an administrator is situational; you don’t really know what will happen. Every day is different, and there’s so much going on at once!
