Lesser Known Clubs of SHS
February 26, 2016
Stamford High School is a big school, with many clubs and even more students. However, some of these clubs get overshadowed and forgotten about. The Round Table took a closer look into some of the lesser known clubs at SHS.
Jewelry Club
Are you interested in jewelry? Metal shop? Then the Jewelry Club is right for you! Here you learn how to make key chains and necklaces, learn to saw, solder and sand and learn techniques from art teacher Carolyn Daher. The club, which is in its second year, currently has 10 members. They hold fundraisers, selling their handmade key chains, pins, rings and necklaces, to raise money for additional supplies and a much anticipated trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This year’s club president is Lizbeth Rosario. Some of their projects can be seen in the glass cases in the front entrance on the first floor. Be sure to check out their accomplishments and stop by room 362 next Thursday!
C.A.M. Club (Comics, Anime and Manga)
If you love comics, anime, or manga then come to C.A.M. Club! The club meets every Monday in room 628 to watch various anime and cartoon shows, create videogame-inspired masks and conduct drawing lessons. After several years of switching rooms and advisers, Kim Wheeler has now taken over and helped to revamp the club. This year the club is led by co-President Susana Cevallos. With its fresh start, the club is looking to gain members and raise funds. All comics, anime and manga enthusiasts are welcome!
SHS Gives Back
SHS Gives Back has started up again with adviser Michelle Moavero and new sophomore co-Presidents Scott Krupa and Nikhil Rao. Looking to give back to the SHS community, the club has put together a food pantry for students whose only meal is the one at Stamford High. Students can anonymously take food from this pantry for themselves and their families. In addition to their current t-shirt sale, they have received various disclosed donations, including one from Cablevision. SHS Gives Back meets every other Monday in room 162 so stop by if you’re looking to get involved and give back!
We are still searching for more unknown clubs so if you know of some or find any let us know in the comments!
