Welcoming New Stamford High Teachers

A Q&A session with three new faculty members

Mr. Incorvia and Mrs. Stipo

Jessica Torrellas and Alexandra Samelko

It’s the new school year, and Stamford High School welcomes many new students in addition to a lot more new teachers. Three new teachers at SHS are Angelo Incorvaia, Andrea Loaiza, and Lauren Stipo.

Incorvaia is currently teaching business concept, career pathways, Business Math, and Personal Finance on the second floor. Loaiza, who teaches Spanish in the World Language department, can be found on the sixth floor. Stipo teaches Accounting, Marketing, and Business Law in the Unified Arts department and can be found on the second floor.

All three of these teachers are excited for this year and are happy to join the Black Knight community. We had the chance to meet up with them to ask more about their background and past teaching experiences.

TRT: What’s the best part of being a new teacher?

Incorvaia: Being new is exciting because it’s a new challenge to develop kids for the future.

Stipo: I enjoy meeting and working with new people, including faculty, staff, and students.

Loaiza: The best part of being a teacher is being able to see the sparkle in the eye when he/she grasps what I am trying to express and teach.

TRT: Where was your last job, and how was it different?

Incorvaia: My last job was in New York; it was different because it was a much larger school with different challenges.

Stipo: My last job was at Fox Lane High School in Bedford, NY. Some of the business courses that I taught were different there.

Loaiza: I taught at High Tech High School in Jersey City, NJ. There was a lot of student diversity.

TRT: What should students expect when taking your class?

Incorvaia: Students should expect to learn and to have the opportunity to succeed. I respect my students and expect the same back in my classroom.

Stipo: Students should expect to work on skills that will help them to be successful in whichever career path they choose.

Loaiza: Students should come into my class with passion for the material. I give students lots of criticism and feedback on their work so that they can improve and excel to their fullest.

TRT: How long have you been teaching for?

Incorvaia: I have been teaching high school for 5 years.

Stipo: I taught college business for 16 years and high school business for 9 years.

Loaiza: I have been teaching for 20 years.

TRT: What is your preferred way to discipline students?

Incorvaia: Punishment in class is to review the class rules.

Stipo: In my classroom I review the rules and procedures with the class and provide structure and consistency. Hopefully these things eliminate the need for punishment.

Loaiza: Detention and calling parents.

TRT: Why do you like to teach, and what other activities do you like besides teaching?

Incorvaia: I like to teach to help students be prepared for the future, and I love my kids. I coach soccer and I love it. I coach girls ages 11, 12, 13, and 14. I have so much fun doing it and having my daughter on the team makes it extra special. Last year they won the Disney Presidents Cup Tournament, played at Disney World against teams across the country and some in other parts of the world. I also worked in banking and finance for 15 years, and I played football in college and a few years professionally.

Stipo: I enjoy teaching all business courses, but the ones I enjoy most are Business Law and Marketing. I also enjoy books, movies, Broadway plays, and going to my son’s soccer and baseball games!

Loaiza: What I like about teaching is the ability to help children achieve their best and inspire students not only academically but personally. Besides teaching I love to exercise, and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
