Throwback: a Look Back at the School Year
June 16, 2015
As the year finally comes to a close, the students of Stamford High can reminisce on the school year behind them. Whether it be the multitude of achievements by our students or the many events that took part in our walls, there’s a lot to look back at for everybody. One of the most memorable events would be our school’s first “lip dub,” not only because we got to share our school spirit through YouTube, but also because the experience both prepping for and recording the video was once in a lifetime; according to Mr. Ringel, who was largely responsible for organizing the event, “Everybody was having a good time!” The school also took time to commemorate an old friend, Head of Security Curtis Tinnin, with 2015 marking his 40th year of being affiliated with Stamford High (including his graduation from here in 1977).
Of course, it wouldn’t be Stamford High if we didn’t win any awards, all of them deserving of recognition for the efforts of our fellow classmates. Take our girls’ softball team, who seemed to tear their way through the competition this year, earning them the title of FCIAC finalists for the first time in nine years. Or take the Black Knight’s boy’s baseball team, who also won their way into the finals (which they haven’t done since 2009. In the spirit of our athletes, a rally was put together to honor those who excelled in life after playing at Stamford High; some grew to be NFL athletes while others coached professionally. But our athletes aren’t the only ones who are deserving of the spotlight; our very own junior Namrata Ramakrishna was honored with the title “Governor’s Scholar” for her outstanding academic performance.
Becoming famous and successful is usually seen as something that only happens to “other people;” the last place you’d expect to meet “the next big thing” is in your very school, which makes it that much more amazing to think that some of our very own have made it that far. All of this goes to show that, when working together with strenuous effort, people can go far in life – especially our Black Knights!
