Welcome to “Westworld,” a futuristic amusement park depicted in the HBO television series “Westworld.”  The show, from “Person of Interest” creator Jonathan Nolan and Executive Producer J.J Abrams, is an awesome thrill ride featuring an ensemble cast including Ed Harris, James Marsden and Anthony Hopkins.

The show’s first episode, The Original,” which aired Oct. 2, 2016, starts off with a young woman named Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) being questioned on her thoughts on her reality. The script, written by Nolan and his wife, Lisa Joy Nolan, is fantastic and intrigues the viewer from the start. Also, the story creates a great sense of mystery with Harris’ character, The Man In Black. Furthermore, the show takes an even more confusing turn when the character Teddy (Marsden), who had been coming in on a train that morning, dies that night, and the next scene is him on the train again.

As discovered later in the episode, “Westworld” is a virtual world that is populated by artificial people called “hosts” and are there to serve visitors’ needs. The Hosts have scripts programmed into their minds, but conflict arises when people go off-script. The sci-fi ideas in this show are some of the best I have ever seen. The concept of a futuristic theme park is relevant and refreshing because it could be a reality in our lifetime.  Harris does a fantastic job as does the rest of the cast. He has become a James Spader type of actor, in the sense that he takes on many of  these mysterious and eccentric roles.
