New Kanye Album Received Well by Millennials
March 31, 2016
Kanye West is by far the most influential rap artist of the millennial generation. Through his music and entrepreneurship skills, West has secured his spot on the elite board of hip-hop artists as one of the best. His most recent album, entitled “The Life of Pablo,” is an example of his sampling skills from artists and songs all over the world. “Ultralight Beam” used a viral video of a little girl as its introduction, and played throughout the whole song. “Father Stretch My Hands Pt.2” was not produced by West, but rather he featured himself in it. The list goes on with about every song having some part of it sampled from another source.
The album also had some very notable features in it. Some of these include Rihanna in “Famous,” Chris Brown in “Waves,” The Weeknd in “FML,” and Chance the Rapper in “Ultralight Beam.” All these artists sounded great, and with them featured in these tracks, the album itself feels more complete.
Yes there were bad songs, and some which aren’t songs at all. One example is “I Love Kanye.” This is an a capella dialogue of West “rapping” about himself. Kanye does have a tendency to boast about his accomplishments and success, and this track does not differ.
My favorite songs from the album are “Ultralight Beam,” “Father Stretch My Hands” part 1 and 2, and “FML.” This doesn’t mean that the rest of the songs were bad, they were just not as enjoyable to listen to as these.
“The Life of Pablo” was not a bad album, as many critics call it. However, it could be a lot better and because it’s only available on Tidal, which is a subscription based music service owned partly by West, it’s hard for people to access the album without turning to YouTube or a pirated source. Whatever the case is, West is not done making music, and if this album disappointed some people, don’t get used to it.
