Up and Coming Artist of the Month: Ryn Weaver
April 28, 2015
In this day in age of advanced, progressive technology, musicians and producers alike are taking to the internet to release, share, and promote a whole new era of music. Musical outlets like SoundCloud, Spotify, and Rdio have been gaining steam, not only with already established musicians, but emerging artists and their tech savvy producing teams. The accessibility and instantaneous nature of these hi-tech mediums have made it easier than ever to boost a relative unknown into immediate super-stardom.
One such example of this up and coming marketing tactic, comes in the form of Ryn Weaver, the singer-songwriter behind last Summer’s Billboard hit “Octahate”. Weaver, born Erin Michelle Wüthrich, is a prime illustration of what the Internet can do for a music career. Posting her hit single to her SoundCloud account herself, “Octahate” garnered acclaim from listeners and charts alike, with celebrities such as Hayley Williams, Charlie XCX, and Jessie Ware hopping on to the Weaver bandwagon.
Weaver’s musical style can be described with various adjectives, but can be enclosed in the overall category of “Synth-Pop”, utilizing not only percussion, guitar, and piano but a mixing board and synthesizer as well. After gaining acclaim and having “Octahate” garner her a spot on Billboard’s Emerging Artist Chart last June, Weaver went on to released Promises EP, utilizing SoundCloud as her springboard once again.
While not yet a household name, Weaver has been making a name for herself on the music festival circuit and has been hard at work in the studio. She has recently performed at both Coachella and Bonaroo to massive crowds. She is also set to perform at Lollapolooza this upcoming July. Teaming up with Benny Blanco – the producing powerhouse behind hits of artists like Katy Perry, Maroon 5, and Wiz Khalifa – has brought her all the way from obscurity to just left of the spotlight, which she will surely inch directly into in the coming months.
Weaver’s most recent single “The Fool” was released earlier this month, and sits alongside the Promises EP on both SoundCloud and Spotify. Each song is in the making to be the pop-dance-indie markers of the Summer of 2015, so check them out while you’re ahead.
