Up and Coming Artist of the Month: Martin Garrix

Eighteen-year-old, Dutch born DJ Martijn Garritsen, better known for his work under the stage name of Martin Garrix, is rising to stardom faster than his hit single “Animals” rose up the top forty charts. Recently releasing a new single “Virus (How About Now),” Garrix is on the verge of Tiesto renown within the EDM genre.

Like most foreign artists, Garrix has found it difficult to push himself into the American music industry, having only topped the charts at number twenty-one on the Billboard 100 chart with his hit “Animals” last year. However, on the worldwide scale, he is considered to be quite the big deal. Debuting as #40 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJ’s in 2013, Garrix has managed to climb his way through the ranks and settle in the #4 spot, ahead of Avicii, David Guetta, Tiesto, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris and Skrillex, among many others.

Currently on a two month worldwide tour, Garrix is currently performing in South America, with his next show setting up in Vienna, Austria for a November 21st date. He is then set to jump across the pond with tour dates in Lisbon, Marseille, Shanghai, and Istanbul, finishing off in the South Pacific, with one show in New York City on New Year’s Eve at a “Secret Location”, as stated on his official website.

Garrix has garnered attention from other famous people in the music, among the likes of fellow DJ Afrojack, with whom he released the single “Turn Up The Speakers”, as well as British sensation Ed Sheeran. Garrix and Sheeran are set to release their collaborative single “Rewind Repeat It” sometime next year.

Already tearing up music festivals and clubs everywhere, Garrix is sure to conquer the airwaves next. With his new-aged beats and electronically generated rhythms, Garrix will shortly be crowned reigning king of EDM.
