The wildly popular, multiple award winning television drama, Breaking Bad has come to an end; a very bittersweet period in time for the show’s many fans. A fantastic conclusion written and directed by the show’s creator, Vince Gilligan, was very satisfying and answered all of the unanswered questions about the series.
The conclusion of one of the most in depth and unpredictable shows of all time did not disappoint. Every loose end of the show was concluded and nothing was left as a cliff hanger, unlike the ending of most dramas. The entire episode was full of small twists and deceptions which were common in the series. For example, Walter told Elliot and Gretchen that he hired the best hit men west of the Mississippi to kill them if they did not give the money to Flynn. It turned out to be Badger and Skinny P with laser pointers. The finale was like any other episode. It wasn’t action packed or different from the rest of the series and I enjoyed that; it was just a conclusion of the story. Of course, there were awesome moments, like when Walt triggered the machine gun out of his trunk, killing the hit men. Jesse was kept captive, but nothing out of the ordinary for the show.
The last episode is the only episode where Walt is completely honest. He finally admitted to Skylar that he started cooking for himself and he liked to. Walt admitted to Jesse that he wanted to die when Jesse was pointing a gun at him, instead of Walt playing mind games with Jesse convincing him that that was what he wanted. Walter had nothing to hide at this point, everything was out in the open, and everyone knew everything, so there was no need to cover anything up.
In the end, Walter finally died in the meth lab. It was very powerful; he ended exactly where he started. Jesse finally escaped from the hit men. The last scene of Jesse shows him laughing while he’s speeding away in the car. For the first time in the series Jesse was free of everything, he was free of Walter manipulating and pressuring him to help him cook, he was free of the threat of the police, free from the possibility of being murdered, he was free of everything.
Vince Gilligan did a fantastic job of concluding the surprising and riveting series. Every loose end was very well tied up and it was a very satisfying end for all its viewers.
