For decades, Pixar has triumphed by entertaining and teaching kids while taking adults back into their childhood memories. They remind us of all the adventures once encountered and the morals once learned – like the existence of a true and infinite friendship between Woody and Buzz Lightyear, the parental sacrifice as Marvin attempts to find his Nemo, and the adventure of discovering the unknown as Mike and Sully explore Boo’s World through Monsters Inc.. However, in their case, the tale of the two roommates isn’t quite over.
One June 21st, 2013, Pixar released their extraordinary prequel to Monsters Inc., called Monsters University. As the huge Disney and Pixar fan I am, I loved and enjoyed every bit of Monsters U, taking me through the wonders of the “campus life.” The protagonist, Mike Wazowski, has had a huge dream since he was a cuddly little green puff ball. Although he doesn’t seem to be “Scarer Material” his determined plan to one day work at Monsters Inc. and become an All-Time Scarer has always been in motion.
Throughout the move, Mike’s passion grows immensely, as he drowns himself in books, learning every tactic to become the best of the best. He doesn’t care who tells him he can’t fulfill it; he doesn’t care if no one believes in him; Mike Wazowski’s boundless determination keeps the haters hating, as he makes what seems impossible, possible.
It’s not just the hysterical jokes, the cuteness of baby Mike, the crazy events that happen in college, or the unraveling of a great friendship that make this movie absolutely amazing. Pixar has constructed a movie very different than any other movie they’ve made, as it give an alternative ending instead of the usual “happily ever after.” With a bit of a twist to the ending, the movie is worth watching, as it gives kids a glimpse of the reality of life.
Sometimes things happen, and there’s nothing to do but to keep moving forward and never give up like Mike and Sully did. They truly “started from the bottom” and now, they’ve got to catch their dreams through years of hard work and motivation. If you want to laugh, be thrilled with excitement and be inspired to follow your dreams with no limitation, Monsters University is a movie to watch!
