Super Bowl Ads Fail to Excite

Super Bowl Ads Fail to Excite

Arieanna Linton, Writer

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest nights in America for three reasons: the game itself, the halftime performance, and of course lastly, THE COMMERCIALS. Commercials are a big part of the game. They have the power to make a product flourish. In comparison to the last year’s commercials, I have to admit that they definitely made an improvement this year. Switching from serious commercials back to funny ones was a good call, and is why we all watch the commercials anyways. From what I saw, the commercials averaged a solid 6 (out of 10); most were mediocre at best.

You had your average beer commercials, and cameos from celebrities, along with athletes. While most weren’t worth the second glance, there were a few that made you remember these select commercials when the game was over. The repeated Tide commercial, for those of you who may have missed it, it had to be one of the best commercials of the night. With David Harbour (Hopper from Stranger Things) leading the way, the company actually used the average commercials you see to their advantage and made them seem overdone and corny in a funny manner that earned it the honor of “best commercial of the night” for me.

There were a few more good ones that were also considered for the number one spot – such as the Alexa ad that featured Cardi B and Chef Gordon – but if I were to be asked to just watch the commercials again, I’d pass.

It seems as though this year the football game itself was actually better than both the halftime and the commercials…shocking, right ? Better luck next year.
