Arsenal Football Club has attracted the attention of African billionaire Aliko Dangote. Worth an estimated £10.3 billion, making him Africa’s richest man, Dangote had previously tried to purchase Arsenal back in 2010 but was rejected.

Currently, he is valued over both of Arsenal’s current stakeholders, Stan Kroenke, who owns 67 percent, and Alisher Usmanov, who owns 30 percent of the club. Kroenke is also the owner of NFL’s St. Louis Rams, NBA’s Denver Nuggets, NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, and MLS’s Colorado Rapids.

However, before any future bids are placed, Dangote is focusing on his current businesses, stating, “We have $16 billion worth of investments in the next few years. Right now, I want to take on my own business to a certain level. Once I finish on that trajectory, then maybe.” He has made most of his money through multiple operations, including cement manufacturing, sugar supply, and oil investments.

Although he admits to being a fan of the club, he has criticized Arsenal’s current manager Arsene Wenger, claiming he “needs to change his style a bit.” He also points out that the club may need to take a new direction.

Arsenal Football Club is worth an astounding $1.331 billion; this places it as the fifth most valuable football club in the world behind the likes of teams such as Barcelona, Real Madrid, and rivals Manchester United.

Dangote’s worth would provide the Gunners with a significant increase in funds. Even with UEFA’s financial fair play rules in check, Dangote would certainly be able to provide the team with money to bring in new, exciting talent to the Emirates.

This may come as exciting news to some fans, as in recent years the amount of money spent on transfers has left something to be desired. The club has the highest ticket prices out of any Premier league club and it has left some supporters wondering where it is all going. Arsenal has never really been known as a club to spend tons of money on transfers, but that could all come to an end if Dangote were to take over. Year after year, many fans of the club complain about the lack of investment in bringing in new stars to the club; this can be seen as a glimmer of hope for many of them.

Although this financial takeover may not happen overnight, it’s definitely something Arsenal fans and fans of the sport alike should keep an eye on in the future.
