You may know Alexis Reyes as an SHS junior who is very friendly and active in the Black Knight community;  she plays field hockey in the fall, is on the girl’s lacrosse team, in  MYLC, an editor for the Round Table, and is a part of NHS.  But you may know know that she is also a fantastic vocalist!

Since Reyes could remember, she has always had a love and passion for singing, but she didn’t think much of it until middle school.  Still, she hasn’t taken any of the musical courses SHS offers, since “I don’t think they really focus on what I’d like to sing and the style I’d want to sing in.;” She has, however, taken other steps to pursue her dream of becoming a singer.

As a birthday gift, her dad got her studio time at Jambox Studios, located in NYC.  This studio has a wide range of clients, from singers who are just starting off their career to Columbia Records clients.  After that session, she was asked to come back by the producer, Lee Evans.

Before Reyes went back to Jambox, she was asked to pick four songs, of which she was ultimately only able to record two, which included the cover of “If I Ain’t Got You” by Alicia Keys.

Reyes said she had a long fun day when she returned to Jambox. “My dad and I left for NYC around 8 a.m.,” Reyes said.  She added that at the end of the day,  “we got lost finding the parking lot, got some food and ended up getting home around 9 p.m..”

Since then, she has decided she would like to continue developing her talent by minoring in music and continuing to practice while she’s going to school.  She will hopefully accomplish her goal of becoming a singer.  In addition to the Alicia Keys song, Reyes plans on recording more songs, such as “Bleeding Love” by Leona Lewis and “Put Your Records on” by Corrine Bailey Rae.

Her motivation is driven by the incredible amount of positive feedback and support her friends and family give her by encouraging her to “keep at it and make something of it,” says Reyes.  Hopefully this isn’t the last video we’ll see of this talented junior!
