The Stamford High boys basketball team opened up their season on the road at New Milford High School on Monday night with a 66-57 win over the Greenwave.

The Black Knights led the whole game and showed a lot of potential with the many new faces on the court. Senior guard Jay Devito was heckled early and often by a rowdy new Milford crowd and responded to the taunts with 23 points 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Senior Yan Carlos Marte was completely unstoppable from beyond the three point line sinking 5 three pointers to go along with his 20 points 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Sophomore forward Tevin St. John came up big for the Black Knights with strong defensive play and also added 8 points in the winning effort.

Late in the fourth quarter Stamford had to bare down to secure the victory after Devito fouled out. Due to clutch free throws by several black nights including senior forward Steffon Harding, they were able to seal the victory. The win means the the Knights start the season off right with a 1-0 record. The boys will get to celebrate their win until this Wednesday when they travel to Newtown to take on the Newtown High Hawks at 7.
