Mets Look to Take Down Dodgers in NLDS

The New York Mets, despite being underdogs, topped off the best second half in the NL with a division championship. Thanks to a huge second half by Yoenis Cespedes, The Amazins’ ended their season with a 90-72 record, a record which landed them in first place in their division.
This is the first time in nine years that they made the playoffs, and this just might be the year they win it all.

As for the playoffs, the Mets will open up their playoff run with a tough series against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday. The series, which is being hyped up for the pitching matchups that will be on display, will start off with last year’s NL Rookie of the year and Cy Young candidate Jacob deGrom going up against Cy Young candidate Clayton Kershaw.

It’s going to be a fast game assuming the pitching is as good as expected. Clayton Kershaw finished with 300+ strikeouts, the first pitcher to do so since 2002 when both Curt Schilling and Randy Johnson achieved the feat.

If the Mets can win the best of five series, they will go on to the championship series where they will play the winner of Cardinals vs Cubs.

Offensively, the Mets’ bats need to really step up if the pitching does well. The biggest problem the Mets faced in the first half of the season was that the pitching would toss seven shutout innings pitched but they would still lose 1-0 or 2-1. That all changed when the Mets made the trade deadline acquisitions of Yoenis Cespedes, Juan Uribe, Kelly Johnson and getting David Wright back from injury.

The Mets will start Jacob deGrom in game one, Noah Syndergaard in game two and Matt Harvey in game three.
