SHS Football Off to a Gloomy Start

The Varsity football team hosted their first game against Fairfield Prep this past Thursday the 12th. The Knights were off to a slow start in the beginning of the game giving up a turn over, which then resulted in a touchdown and extra point for the Prep Jesuits. The game didn’t get much further than that, due to torrential downpour and lightning, and it was then postponed until the next day, Friday the 13th at 3:30.

On Friday the game resumed where the teams had left off the day before. Quickly,

Fairfield Prep scored on a two yard run to advance to a 14-0 lead over Stamford. Sadly, the Knights endured more bad luck after half time when Prep intercepted an almost perfect pass thrown by junior quarterback Jalen Brown.  They later scored on the play making their lead 21-0.

After another touchdown pass from Prep just before the end of the third quarter, the skies went black, just as the day before. Then once again it began pouring buckets, but the game went on, and a few brave fans continued cheering in the stands while others took cover.

The final score of the game was 28-0 Prep.  Hopefully the rest of the Knights season won’t be such a “washout.” The boys did show extreme talent, strength and perseverance. They take on Bridgeport Harding September 20th home at Boyle Stadium at 6:00pm. Please make sure to come out and show your Black Knight pride!
