Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer is priced at $400.

Dyson’s newest creation, the Supersonic Fuchsia Hair Dryer, is a $400 hair dryer that Dyson spent $67 million developing over the past four years with the help of over 100 engineers. The hair dryer is said to be better than all of its competitors, as it is quieter, more powerful and has “intelligent heat control” to prevent damage to the user’s hair.

Is this $400 hair dryer really worth it, or was its creation just a waste of both time and money? Should Dyson have used their time and money to create something more useful and practical?

There has been debate over whether or not the hair dryer truly works, and whether it is really different from the average hair dryer.  CNN states that “the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer worked well, but it wasn’t a miracle device that offered enough benefits to justify the price.”  It has received some good reviews about how it worked quietly and was able to deplete frizz and flyaways, but most would agree that the product is not worth the steep price.

Art teacher Module Downer said that she “is definitely adding it to [her] Christmas list,” while junior Stephanie Walsh said, “It is extremely overpriced, and when God gives you straight hair, you don’t spend $400 on a hair dryer.”

In a video posted to show the hair dryer in use, a woman’s already dried hair was re-blow dried with the Dyson on one half and a regular hair dryer was used on the other half.  There was essentially no difference between the two when the end result was shown.  Others have also reported issues regarding its “intelligent heat control,” claiming that the hair dryer has burned their scalps.

So, is $400 truly worth the “miracle hair dryer?”  I’d say no, as Dyson has failed to prove that its hair dryer truly works by failing to show that it is actually capable of performing its designated purpose: drying hair.  The result of Dyson’s hair dryer was nearly the same as the average hair dryer and many of its claims have been reviewed as false and misleading.  This “perfected” hair dryer is not everything its been made out to be and is most definitely not worth the money.
