Red Nose Day to raise money to help end child poverty

Gissel Campos, Editor-in-Chief

For the first time in 2015, the U.S. launched Red Nose Day, a global event that raises money to help end child poverty around the world, and on Thursday, May 26, this “get seriously silly” FUN-raiser will be back. Red Nose Day raises money by selling red noses only at Walgreens stores. The funds are used to support communities in the US and other countries that are in need.

By purchasing a red nose at their local Walgreens, participants donate to the cause and have a fun way to show their support on Red Nose Day, as well as a means of raising awareness of child poverty. For those who want to go over-the-top silly, Walgreens is now also selling springy headbands, oversized bow ties, red hats, red noses for cars and beaded necklaces, as well as mugs and pens for those who would like to help but are a little shy about crazy accessories.

In addition to purchasing these items, participants can tune in to the two-hour Red Nose Day Special on NBC at 9 p.m. This night of fun will feature host Craig Ferguson alongside a cast of some of the biggest Hollywood stars who will entertain audiences with comedy and musical performances. Some of the celebrities who will be involved in this special include Ellen DeGeneres, Jack Black, Key & Peele and Zack Efron, along with many more. The special will also feature short films that reveal the hard reality about the poverty children across the US and in other countries have to face.

In the last 25 years, the Red Nose Day event raised over $1 billion globally, and last year the U.S. was able to contribute $25 million to this great cause.
