Alien: Covenant Delivers Thrills and Suspense

Over the Memorial Day weekend I saw the new movie Alien: Covenant. Director Ridley Scott did an amazing job creating a film that kept you on the edge of your seat the entire time. The movie starts out on a colony ship that is headed for a distant planet to start the human race on another planet. The ship is filled with 2,000 people and over 1000 human embryos. On their journey, a solar wave hit the ship and after they completed their repairs, they picked up an unknown transmission from a distant planet. The crew decided to go check the transmission out. When they got to the planet, they noted that it looked a lot like Earth and could be a possible new home for mankind.

They immediately began to search the strange planet and accidently stepped on these pods that released this dust that if inhaled, turns a human into a host for the now-familiar species of alien we have seen in Scott’s previous films (with a few differences).

All of the actors played their roles well. The actors with the main roles are Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Danny Mcbride , Noomi Rapace, Demien Bichir, and Billy Crudup. The score also kept you anxious throughout the entire movie; you didn’t know when an alien was going to pop out of nowhere and scare you, so the music had a large effect on how the movie played out. Another plus to the movie was the skillful combo of cinematography and CGI. It gave you the feeling that you were actually in space, and the set that they chose for the planet that they were investigating was beautiful.

Scott did a great job in making the new planet feel remote and secluded. Between the feeling of isolation and the anxious score, Alien: Covenant is a great sci-fi horror movie that never has a dull or boring moment. Ridley Scott hit a home run with this one.
